HTC announced on Monday that it will incorporate Super LCD (SLCD) display technology from Sony on its newest mobile phones. This move gets rid of AMOLED screens obtained from Samsung. The move is primarily due to a shortage of HTC devices including the Droid Incredible on Verizon and the HTC Desire.
HTC – which makes phones with the Google Android operating system – is going through a large demand for many of its phones, particularly those with 3.7-inch screens. There is currently a shortage of HTC Droid Incredible, the HTC Desire (mainly found in Europe) and the Google Nexus One.
HTC explained the SLCD displays will give a similar visual experience to its current 3.7-inch displays, while at the same time lengthen battery life. HTC will release its first phones with SLCD displays later this summer.
There is no word about which HTC phones will have SLCD screens.
