The world's leading Electronics brand Philips decided to investigate a probable accounting and bookkeeping error at its Mexican subordinate. This is their second case after a trial by three of their employees in Poznan for corruption. The three employees had been charged for bribery in 16 hospitals in order to obtain the tenders.
Eindhovens Dagblad, the local Dutch newspaper, said that they have papers from a KPMG accountant which indicate that the error was a result of "fraud" which was conducted in Philips Mexico's medical equipment division. KPMG's financial department allegedly commented that the figures in Philips's annual report for the fiscal year 2008/09 have been "manipulated". Based on the documents produced by KPMG, Eindhovens Dagblad reported that Philips Mexico's medical equipment division was engaged in a deceitful operation that resulted in the accounting error.
